Shoulder Abduction Test (Bakody’s Test)
The Shoulder Abduction Test is designed to assess for radicular symptoms especially those involving C4 and C5 nerve roots. This test is also known as shoulder abduction relief test and the Bakody’s test.
This test is performed with the patient either in a sitting or lying down position. The examiner passively or the patient actively abducts the involved sidearm and places the hand or forearm over the head.
A positive test is one in which there is a decrease or relief of radicular symptoms. This finding has been referred to as the Bakody’s sign.
