Sacroiliac Distraction Test
The Sacroiliac Distraction test is used to detect sacroiliac joint involvement. This test is also called the Supine Iliac Gapping Test or simply the Gapping Test.
With the patient in the supine position, cross your forearms, placing the palm of each hand over the anterior superior iliac spines, and then apply an oblique load, downward and laterally. This is designed to create gapping of the anterior aspects of the sacroiliac joints. This test is considered positive if it produces pain in the region of either sacroiliac joint.
