Beatty Manoeuvre

The Beatty Manoeuver is designed to detect the presence of deep gluteal syndrome caused by involvement of structures within the deep gluteal space such as the piriformis muscle, the gemelli-obturator internus complex and the quadratus femoris.

To perform the test, ask the patient to lie on the uninvolved side with their hips and knees flexed so that the involved side knee rests on the table. Now ask the patient to raise their involved leg. The test is considered positive if it reproduces or aggravates buttock pain or sciatica.
